Devshayani Ekadashi 2021 Date and Time, (Ashadhi Ekadashi)
Let us know when is Devshayani Ekadashi and the date and time of Ashadhi Ekadashi. Ekadashi is the eleventh date in the lunar month. There are two Ekadashi in every lunar month, one Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha and Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha. This date is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadha is called Ashadhi Ekadashi. It is also known as Devshayani Ekadashi, Harishayani and Padmanabha Ekadashi. According to the English calendar, Ashadhi Ekadashi falls in the month of June or July.
This is the sleeping time of Lord Vishnu. According to the Puranas, from this day Lord Vishnu sleeps in Kshirsagar for four months, hence it is called Harishayani Ekadashi. Chaturmas starts from this day.
Devshayani Ekadashi, mythological significance of Ashadhi Ekadashi
It is described in the Puranas that from this day onwards, Lord Vishnu resides at the gate of King Bali in Patala for four months (Chaturmas) and returns on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi. For this purpose, this day is called 'Devashayani' and Kartik Shukla Ekadashi is called Prabodhini Ekadashi. During this period, the sacraments, marriage, initiation, yajna, home entry, Godan, prestige and all the auspicious deeds are all discarded. According to Bhavishya Purana, Padma Purana and Shrimad Bhagavata Purana, Harishayana is called Yoganindra.
According to religious literature in Sanskrit, the word Hari is used in many meanings like Sun, Moon, Vayu, Vishnu etc. Harishyan means the weakening of the Sun and Moon due to clouds and rain in these four months is a sign of their sleeping. During this time, due to the calmness of the fire in the form of bile, the power in the body becomes weak or goes to sleep. In the modern era, scientists have also discovered that in Chaturmasya (mainly in the rainy season), various types of germs i.e. micro-disease animals arise, the reason for this is the abundance of water and the very low availability of sun-brilliance on the land.
According to religious scriptures, Shankhasur Daitya was killed on the Ekadashi date of Ashadh Shukla Paksha. Therefore, starting from the same day, the Lord sleeps in the Kshir Samudra for four months and wakes up on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi. According to the Purana, it is also said that Lord Hari, in the form of Vamana, asked for three steps as donation in the sacrifice of demon sacrifice. The Lord covered the entire earth, sky and all directions in the first step. In the next step, the whole heaven world was taken. In the third step, Bali dedicated himself and asked to keep a foot on his head. Pleased with this kind of donation, God made him the ruler of Hades and said ask for a boon. Bali asked for a boon and said that Lord, you should always stay in my palace. Seeing him tied in the bondage of sacrifice, his brother Lakshmi made Bali his brother and requested the Lord to free Bali from the word. From this day onwards, following the boon by Lord Vishnu, all the three deities reside in Sutla for four to four months. Vishnu resides from Devshayani Ekadashi to Devuthani Ekadashi, Shiva lives from Mahashivratri and Brahma lives from Shivratri to Devshayani Ekadashi.

Katha (Story) of Devshayani Ekadashi, Ashadhi Ekadashi
Once Devrishi Naradji expressed his eagerness to know about this Ekadashi from Brahmaji, then Brahmaji told him that in Satyuga a Chakravarti emperor named Mandhata used to reign. People were very happy in his kingdom. But no one knows what will happen in future. Therefore, they were also unaware that there was going to be a severe famine in their kingdom soon.
There was a severe famine in his kingdom due to lack of rain for three years. There was panic all around due to this famine. There has been a decrease in the sacrifice, havan, pind daan, story-fast etc. of the religious side. When there is trouble, where is the interest of the creature in religious works. The subjects went to the king and cried for their pain.
The king was already sad about this situation. They started thinking that after all what such sin-deed have I committed, for which I am getting punished in this form? Then with the aim of getting some means to get rid of this suffering, the king went towards the forest with the army. While roaming there, one day he reached the ashram of Angira Rishi, son of Brahmaji and prostrated to him. The sage asked after blessing. Then wanted to know the purpose of wandering in the forest and coming to his ashram.
Then the king folded his hands and said- 'Mahatman! I am seeing the sight of famine in my state even after following all the religions. After all, for what reason this is happening, please solve it.' Hearing this, Maharishi Angira said- 'O king! The golden age is the best of all the ages. In this, even a small sin receives a severe punishment.
In this, religion pervades its four feet. Except a Brahmin, no other caste has the right to do penance while a Shudra is doing penance in your kingdom. This is the reason why it is not raining in your state. Until he attains Kaal, this famine will not calm down. The peace of a famine is possible only by killing him.
But the heart of the king was not ready to quell a Narparadhashudra ascetic. He said- 'O God, let me kill that innocent, my mind is not accepting this. Please suggest some other solution.' Maharishi Angira told- 'Praise the Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of the month of Ashadha. There will definitely be rain due to the effect of this fast.
The king returned to the capital of his kingdom and strictly observed Padma Ekadashi with all the four varnas. Due to the effect of the fast, there was torrential rain in his kingdom and the whole kingdom became full of wealth.
In this way, after worshiping Lord Vishnu, after feeding Brahmins, take food or fruits themselves.
On Devshayani Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu should be worshiped and praised in the night and before one's own sleep, the Lord should be put to sleep.
